The Ghana Skills Development Initiative (GSDI) has organized a successful one and half-day retreat with the Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (COTVET) and other main governmental project partners in Ada to strategize GSDI’s support to the implementation of Ghana’s TVET reform. The retreat, which was attended by 24 participants from COTVET, GIZ, the Ministry of Education (MoE), the Ghana Education Service (GES), and the Technical Examinations Unit (TEU), fostered the development of action plans along GSDI’s major areas of support and deepened collaboration between project partners to implement the agreed activities in the remaining implementation period of GSDI III.
The Executive Director of COTVET, Dr. Fred K. Asamoah, highlighted the government’s political priorities with regard to the TVET sector and also showed appreciation to the German government for continuously supporting TVET in Ghana. The TVET Director at MoE, Mr. Jonathan Odartey, commended COTVET’s and the project staff’s joint presentations on curriculum development and the recognition of prior learning (RPL) which are in line with national priorities. COTVET also announced the introduction of a digitalized registration and accreditation process which will ease the process for training providers and facilitators. “This process will also help us to easily track the institutions who have successfully been accredited”, the COTVET Director of Competency-Based Training (CBT), Mr. Damptey Tetey, added.
At the end of the retreat, the GSDI Team Leader, Mr. Markus Ehmann, expressed his delight over the success of the sessions and commended the contributions of all participants.
