CBT TRAINING – LEARNER CENTERED FACILITATING METHODS

As follow up of the training on the Competency-Based Training approach in 2013/2014, Ghana Skills Development Initiative (GSDI) in collaboration with COTVET is currently providing a refresher training oriented towards the Proficiency II curriculum for selected teachers of the 17 TVET Training Providers.

The training focuses on the new role of teachers as facilitators and learner-centered facilitating methods to be used in the classroom, laboratories and workshops. Discussing criteria of a successful lesson, the participants are using the new Proficiency II unit specification to breakdown the learning content into a session planning and participants exercised the preparation of selected learning sessions applying the newly learned facilitating methods.

Main focus lies on participative and learner-centered facilitating methods to encourage the apprentices’ involvement and active learning. This ranges from individual research tasks, joint group work and problem solving up to learner-to-learner feedback through peer review. Applying learner-centered facilitating methods is even more important in the context of the Competency-Based Training (CBT) approach used in Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
