A graduation ceremony for the Agricultural TVET Competency-Based Training (ATVET CBT) Course in Oil Pam Value Chain has been organized for 101 students by Solidaridad West Africa in collaboration with the Ghana Skills Development Initiative (GSDI III), and the University College of Agriculture and Environmental Studies (UCAES).
The ATVET CBT Training is a 10-week course being conducted at five different agricultural training institutions throughout Ghana for a total of 500 learners focusing on specific training modules for occupations along the oil palm value chain, such as Nursery Establishment, Land Preparation and Plantation Establishment, Harvesting and Agribusiness Management.
The graduation ceremony, which was chaired by Osabarima Abeam Brakatu Ofori Aninkrah, the Bunsohene was also attended by His Excellency, Ron Strikker, the Netherlands Ambassador to Ghana and His Excellency Philipp Stalder, Ambassador of Switzerland to Ghana.
During the Ceremony, the Head of the Programme for Sustainable Economic Development (PSED) at GIZ Ghana, Mr. Detlev Axel Jahn stated that through the establishment of the Ghana Skills Development Initiative (GSDI) Project, the German Development Cooperation through GIZ Ghana seeks to introduce competency-based training (CBT) standards and collaborative training models which combine both workplace-based training and school-based training modules to selected TVET providing institutions in Ghana. This is expected to provide demand driven training to job-seeking youth, apprentices and trade persons which will intern build a confident and job-ready workforce that will be attractive and sought after by industry as either employees or entrepreneurs.
The Sustainable West Africa Palm Oil Programme Phase II (SWAPP II) is a project being implemented by Solidaridad West Africa with funding support from the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) as well as the European Union and the German Development Cooperation through the Ghana Skills Development Initiative (GSDI III).
