CBT TRAINING OF TRAINERS (TOT) ON GENERIC SUBJECTS

The Ghana Skills Development Initiative (GSDI) in collaboration with the Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (COTVET) is organising two times a 2 days capacity building workshop for generic teachers from the seventeen selected Training Providers within the project’s scope. This is in preparation towards the implementation of the cooperative apprenticeship training programme.

The cooperative apprenticeship training requires that the responsible persons for training implementation at the Training Providers gain new abilities, skills and competences to fulfil their new role and functions in collaboration with apprentices and parents as well as Trade Associations. The initial assessment at the different Training Providers showed that the level of competence of the responsible facilitators varies substantially.

CBT TRAINING OF TRAINERS (TOT) ON GENERIC SUBJECTS

The purpose of the training workshop is to enable the generic teachers i.e. ICT, Science, Mathematics, English, Entrepreneurship to understand, interpret and use the already developed CBT materials effectively. Two generic teachers from each participating Training Provider will attend the training workshop, after which they will transfer the competencies acquired to other generic teachers in their respective schools.

Each participant will have to come along with a designed action (implementation) plan endorsed by their head of institution, which they will follow to roll out the training to their colleague generic teachers after the training.

The workshops are planned to take place from 11th to 12th August, 2014 and 13th to 15th August in the Greater Accra Region. They will be facilitated by a team of international and local facilitators.

The methodology for the training workshop will be based on the Ghana’s harmonised Competency Based Training (CBT), action oriented lessons and practical instructions.
