A three days workshop for Automotive Trade Teachers and GNAG Master Craftspersons, on Workshop Information Systems and Workshop Diagnostic Systems was initiated by GSDI. “To meet the requirements of customers in the modern automotive business the work without both of the systems is unthinkable!” said the facilitator of the workshop, Mr. Torsten Kietz who is running his own automotive workshop in Germany.

From the 7th to the 9th of July GSDI initiated a three days training on entrepreneurship in the GSDI office in Accra. The workshop was designed to follow-up with 13 selected Master Craftspersons on the previous Training of Trainers on ‘Basics of Entrepreneurship’. Cadmond Dadzie conducted the training in cooperation with Gladys Quarshie from the GSDI team. The training did not only aim to provide a deeper understanding of the basics of entrepreneurship, but it also had the objective to train the participants as facilitators in their respective Trade Association.

GSDI supported the development of five CBT programs including Generics on Proficiency level. With regard to the upcoming assessment of the piloted cooperative apprenticeship training, GSDI in cooperation with COTVET has organized a 2-days workshop from July 17th to July 18th 2015 at GSDI Office in Accra. The training aimed at building the capacity of the staff of the GES-TEU (Technical Exams Unit) as an Awarding Body on COTVET’s quality assurance process of assessment and certification with focus on:

As follow up of the training on the Competency-Based Training approach in 2013/2014, Ghana Skills Development Initiative (GSDI) in collaboration with COTVET is currently providing a refresher training oriented towards the Proficiency II curriculum for selected teachers of the 17 TVET Training Providers.

In December 2015, just prior to the holidays, a training has been conducted to improve the skills of automotive facilitators on Workshop Information Systems (WIS) and Workshop Diagnostic Systems (WDS). Two trainings have been held, at Ho-Polytechnic and Kpando Technical Institute in Volta Region.

Following three years preparation in designing and establishing the Modernized Apprenticeship Training, the first cohort of apprentices participated in the National Proficiency 1 assessment at the end of November 2015. This is setting the tone for providing structured training within the traditional apprenticeship in the informal sector and obtaining a recognized national certification.

The Ghana Skills Development Initiative (GSDI) proudly celebrated its first graduation

One hundred and four (104) apprentices of Trade Associations in the Greater Accra Region, trained under the Ghana Skills Development Initiative (GSDI), received certificates in Competency-Based Training (CBT) National Proficiency level 1 at a ceremony in Accra on 22nd March 2016.
